A five-year-old boy and his family are celebrating after he caught a large carp with his plastic fishing rod at a Gloucestershire lake.
Little Matthew Pretorius, twin brother Markus and dad Albert went on a fishing trip to South Cerney and the venue’s seasoned veterans were amazed when Matthew bagged a 12lb fish using just the toy rod and a single piece of sweetcorn, the Swindon Advertiser has reported.
"It was quite a scene to see this little rod pull out that size [of] fish without breaking," the boys’ mother, Michelle, told the newspaper. "It was a great day out and totally unbelievable."
Although Markus couldn’t quite top his twin’s impressive exploits, he did manage to land a carp of his own and Matthew is adamant that the family will go on more fishing sessions in the near future.
Earlier this week, fishermen in the north-west of England were reminded that they could face a £2,500 if they fail to produce a rod licence when required.
