Fishing rod news: Angling society wins charity grant

A group of fishing enthusiasts in Greater Manchester have been awarded a grant of £200 to put towards their continued attempts to make the area's waterways more accessible to fishing rod users.

Heywood and District Angling Society received the money from the recently-established Heywood Heroes campaign, a joint venture between the town's Rotary Club and the Heywood Advertiser newspaper.

Local authorities and businesspeople have also lent a financial hand to the organisation since its formation in 2008, helping to fund a number of small schemes intended to improve the appearance and condition of nearby canals and rivers.

"The amount achieved by the society in the past two years is remarkable and it is a very commendable project," said Heywood Rotarian Peter Rush.

Last month, the Bolton News reported that a charity aiming to encourage more Muslim youngsters to grab fishing rods for the first time had organised special angling-related events at Bradshaw Fisheries.ADNFCR-3049-ID-800049421-ADNFCR
