Angler lands 1,000 species with fishing rod

An American angler is celebrating after reaching the personal milestone of catching 1,000 different species of fish and says he has no intention of packing away his fishing rod just yet.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, 47-year-old Californian Steve Wozniak explained his delight at hitting the landmark figure when he reeled in a coalfish during an angling expedition to the Arctic Circle.

"When I caught the coalfish I think I expected it to be this big fanfare event, but I was sat in a boat in a peaceful fjord an hour below the Arctic Circle," he told the newspaper. "I just sort of sat there with a glow of accomplishment."

Mr Wozniak added that with around 30,000 other species still left to catch, he still feels he has a lot of fishing left to do.

Last month, leading figures from the British angling community mourned the death of record-holding carp Two Tone. ADNFCR-3049-ID-800051164-ADNFCR
